  • Synopsis :

Spin the Globe,a programme featuring world music is presented by popular radio deejay and talk show host William Xavier. The programme focuses on different types of music from around the world like traditional and quasi-traditional music and music where there is intermingling of more than one cultural tradition. In this edition, William features a wide-ranging selection of music that belongs to native Americans in North and South America. The songs capture their rich cultural tradition. Connections to the natural world form the basis of some of this music.  When the Europeans came to America, people from Portugal and Spain assimilated better with the native Americans than the British and the French. Hence the boundaries between indigenous people and those of European descent were increasingly blurred in Latin America where there were large numbers of people from Spain and Portugal. In North America however, indigenous tribes were largely isolated and lived in reservations. They were able to retain their rich musical traditions and keep their musical heritage alive.
