  • Synopsis :

    1.  Singapore: Health Minister Lim Hng Kiang said that between 7 and 11 children below the age of five died from viral infection every year on average. In the first nine months of this year, there were six deaths linked to viral infections but four of these happened in the past one month and were linked to the hand, foot and mouth disease. Health Minister Lim Hng Kiang urged parents to understand the government's precautionary measure to close pre-schools. Sound bite of Mr. Lim. (00:02:13)

    2.  Singapore: The public service division urged all ministries to grant time off or allow flexible working arrangements to be made for affected parents. The Singapore National Employers Federation has also asked co-workers to help affected employees that have to take urgent leave.     5.  Singapore: Most enrichment centres have been quick to respond to the government's call for such places to be shut down for the time being.     11.  Malaysia: Malaysian Foreign Minister called on Malaysians to read the second part of Senior Minister Lee Kuan Yew's memoirs. He said it will help Malaysians understand Singapore's thinking and actions and the system underlining their present and future relations. (00:20:48)

    12.  Singapore: A fourteen-year-old teenager faced seven charges of maid abuse in the juvenile court. He was alleged to have committed the offences on his 26-year-old maid. (00:24:45)

    13.  Singapore: The Central Narcotics Bureau made their largest Yaba seizure this year. Almost 5,000 Yaba tablets were found in the platform shoes of a Thai woman. (00:25:26)

    14.  Australia: The 27th Olympic Games ended after 16 days of competition in Sydney. More than 10,000 athletes from 200 countries competed for 300 gold medals in 31 sports and produced much drama on and off the field of play.(00:26:04)
