  • Synopsis :

In his speech, Minister for Foreign Affairs S Rajaratnam asks the textile community to control themselves during bad times, such as when they have great difficulties months back. He notes that the textile business has picked up recently. He reminds the association of the government's basic policy which is 'to do things not for today but for tomorrow', is concerned not so much for 'today's problems, but tomorrow's problems'.

He also asks them to always try to 'understand why the government do these things; at times take 'unpopular' measures, which it believes is to make life better for everyone. The business community can make money, but do not 'make profit at the expense of Singapore', but instead give back to society.
