  • Synopsis :

Minister for Foreign Affairs S Rajaratnam's speech 'surveys the landscape of the region in which we live', and focuses on the 'role of professional men and society' in Singapore.

First he looks at the 'running men' of 10/20 years ago - professional men once faced with difficulties leave Singapore for other countries. But it is less easy to do so today with 'changing political and economic atmosphere' in these countries.

Minister then looks at the changes outside Singapore, particularly the neighbouring countries. He finds Communists are active again and they are from the professional group. Minister's speech continues on next tape.

Speaking before Minister is the Institute's Vice-President (announced by the MC).

The dinner is held at Shangrila Hotel.
