Synopsis :In his speech, Minister for Foreign Affairs S Rajaratnam talks on Singapore 'transforming itself into a global city', from a 'small city state without natural hinterland, natural resources, raw materials'.
An independent Singapore surmounts its handicaps, survives politically, economically to become 'a world-embracing city', and not just the 'Change Alley of South-East Asia'. Singapore disproves the belief among many that an independent Singapore will collapse.
After his speech Minister takes questions from the floor. The question-answer session is still going on when tape runs out.
