  • Synopsis :

In his speech Minister for Foreign Affairs and Labour S Rajaratnam makes a 'provisional review of the labour laws promulgated over 6 months ago', and concludes that it has to 'a considerable degree achieved what it set out to achieve'.

He says the success is a result of 'human effort, skill, imagination and discipline' from management and labour. He stresses the government's policy towards human problems is they are 'capable of solution', and Singapore has solved seveal problems, such as housing, education and industrialisation, which many contend are 'the impossibles'. He believes the reservations that some people still have about Singapore's 'capacity to industrialise and expand her trade and commerce will fade away'. He urges these people to 'get out of the old rut of conceiving' Singapore.

Saying a few words before Minister is the SICC's Chairman.
