Synopsis :Recording contains continuation of the ceremony for the transfer of HM Dockyard Singapore To Singapore Government. Chairman of Sembawang Shipyard (Private) Ltd, Hon Sui Sen, gives a speech in response to Minister for Foreign Affairs S Rajaratnam on behalf of Acting Prime Minister Dr Goh Keng Swee.
He says the formal transfer ceremony is done 'symbolically by breaking the flag' of Sembawang Shipyard to accept formally 'possession and control' of the Naval Dockyard and 'responsibility of its operation as a commercial dockyard'. He points out that Sembawang Shipyard is 'taking over a magnificent piece of real estate' and gives the assurance that the 'dockyard is in good hand'. The dockyard for the next couple of years is still 'doing considerable amount of work' for the British Navy.
He touches on the facilities and personnel included with the transfer. He then outlines Sembawang Shipyard's future plans to further modernise and expand the dockyard to 'make it more readily adaptable to commercial requirements' and to 'attain international competitiveness'.
