    Recording contains BBC's interview with Deputy Prime Minister Dr Toh Chin Chye by Robert MacKenzie.

    Deputy Prime Minister Dr Toh Chin Chye is in London with Minister for Foreign Affairs S Rajaratnam for talks with the British Government. Questions put to DPM Dr Toh are related to the Malaysian Cabinet's 'emergency meeting to discuss the Singapore's government decision to resume barter trade with Indonesia', which include: reason for Singapore's decision to barter trade with Indonesia, possibility of strong relations between the two countries, Malaysia views the issue a 'threat to its own defence'.

    DPM Dr Toh is also asked questions related to bases in Singapore, which include: Britain's 'continued presence in Singapore' and possiblly long-term period of large scale forces there, 'attitude of the Singapore government to the presence of three bases' in its territory, US restraining possible China's aggresion in the region.

    The interview is included in the BBC Home Service's 10 o'clock programme of news and current affairs and recorded off transmission by Radio Singapore's crew accompanying DPM Dr Toh and his team.
