  • Synopsis :

    Recording is radio's coverage of Minister for Finance Dr Goh Keng Swee opening the Industrial Week organised by the Singapore Polytechnic's Engineering Society. Dr Goh says in his speech included in the programme, it is the first time a students' body organises the Industrial Week. He talks about the few 'fundamental issues an industrialising society must face', elaborating on the two forms of industrial growth - the imitative and the pioneering efforts. He discusses the 'massive development project' drawn up by the government 'to encourage the growth of new industries'.

    Speaking before Dr Goh is the Engineering Society's President. While waiting for Dr Goh's arrival,  the radio commentator gives the background to the Industrial Week, including details of the events lined up. After Dr Goh cuts the ribbon to open the Week, the commentator walks listeners through the exhibition.
