Synopsis :

This talk discusses how the entrepot trade will be affected after Singapore joins the common market. Trade which are diverted to Malaysia will fall as Malaysia imposes taxes to protect domestic industries. However the loss in revenue from this trade will be compensated by the creation of jobs due to import substitution. Trade which are diverted to other countries will continue, and hence Singapore's entrepot trade will only be affected marginally.
