Synopsis :Narration of the meaning of Thaipusam Festival which commemorates the victory of Lord Subramaniam over the demon after a great battle in the Himalayan mountains and the kavadi which symbolises the mountains of the epic battle; preparation and rituals required of kavadi-bearers; kavadi-bearers receiving skewers for the day; leaving the temple in 15-minute intervals; walking along the streets to another Hindu temple; crushing of coconuts to the ground to honour the deities; cheerings of well-wishers for the kavadi-bearers. On reaching the other temple, women devotees offer pots of milk to be poured over the statue of Lord Subramaniam; Hindusim represents one of many interesting facets of the cultural and religious life of Singapore.
