Synopsis :This documentary contains footage of the surrender of the Japanese forces in Singapore in 1945. Footage shows the surrender of the Japanese admiral on board HMS Sussex; arrangements made between the Allied and Japanese soldiers for the formal surrender at the Municipal Building; Japanese soldiers clearing the parade ground before the ceremony in front of civilians and local population; gathering of VIPs, dignitaries and ex-POWs at the Municipal Building; arrival of Lord Louis Mountbatten; inspection of guards-of-honour; arrival of the Japanese delegation; signing of the surrender documents; speech by Lord Mountbatten followed by salute and the raising of the Union Jack; autographed Australian flag signed by Lord Mountbatten.
