Synopsis :In his speech before he opens the conference on 'The Economic and Political Growth Pattern of Asia-Pacific', Minister for Foreign Affairs S Rajaratnam looks at the political and security situation in the Southeast Asia region, particularly in ASEAN. He touches on the European Marxists who he believes are 'creating difficulties' for Singapore and ASEAN.
His speech continues on next tape. Speaking before Minister is Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS) Director, Dr S Sandhu.
The conference is organised jointly by the Pacific Forum and the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies at the Goodwood Park Hotel.
