  • Synopsis :

This is a recording of Minister for Culture S Rajaratnam's talk on 'Malaysia and the Changing Pattern of World Politics' when he re-opens a public lecture series organised by the Political Study Centre. A short introductory address by the Centre's Director of Training, G.G. Thomson, precedes his talk.

Mr Rajaratnam explains how, up to the recent elections in Singapore in 1963, the battle for Malaysia is fought out in terms of domestic struggles between local parties. With Indonesia and the PKI having started confrontation and the crush Malaysia policy, the time has come for the people to be openly told that Malaysia is formed to safeguard Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore against Indonesian or PKI take-over.

He elaborates on why independent Malaysia must learn fast how to survive and prosper in a turbulent and dangerous world of international politics; and how external threats should be met by show of national solidarity.
