Synopsis :The documentary sets out to discuss 'music which has artisitic value' in the Singapore school environment. It begins with the introductory statement that ''much of the music in Singapore services non musical functions' and explains there are 'three elements in serious music - creation, re creation and listening', which 'may be experienced in the four stream of Chinese, Indian, Malay and Western' music in Singapore.
The programme continues to discuss various aspects through comments and views from various peope involved or engaged in music:
1. most experience of music begins at school or with private teacher; Victor Doggett, a music teacher comments that 'schools must start the awareness that music is a subject, is an art'.
2. what do schools offer which 'will encourage students to create or listen to music in later years', and whether the schhols are successful; excerpts of comments from Teo Lay Na, Assistant Specialist, Inspector of Music and David Lim, also Assistant Specialist.
3. young Singaporean can learn music from 'private tuition from studio or private teacher'; Victor Doggett, Goh Soon Tioe, music teacher and conductor of Youth Orchestra give their views on what private teachers 'offer that will give students a lifetime of music appreciation and enjoyment'.
4. students can continue in music outside of classroom; Charles Lazaroo, Specialist Inspector of Music explain that schools are allowed to engage private music teacher for special sessions for students'; the government has instituted young musicians society, youth orchestra, youth choir.
5. students can continue to learn music at the University of Singapore; Edward Ho, Head of the university Music Department talks about the offerings at the university.
6. Institute of Education has courses for teachers in music teaching; Leong Yoon Pin, who trains teachers in music at the institute shares his views of music in Singapore, including belief in a 'music policy'.

The documentary ends with some general comments - that 'music demand individual excell'e, yet that individuality must be perfectly integrated within any group if it is to successfully recreate a work of art'. And in Singapore 'the four 'distinct musical cultures can be woven into a tapestry of richeness and distinction'.
