  • Synopsis :

    The 16mm film is not a packaged production but contains filming of several aspects of farming -  Coconuts, Farmers' Study Tour, HDB Estate, Opening Of Farm School. There is no audio. Details of the footages are as follows:
    1) Black Soil: Lorry with load of black soil, using changku and shovel men push it on ground;
    2) Coconuts:
    a) 'Baby' plant growing from coconuts lying on ground; several planted in ground, spaced out;
    b) Coconut husks with outer skin turning grey - big heap left on ground;
    c) Coconuts, looking green with some brown - left on ground;
    d) Removing husks - using blade with its handle standing upright in ground, coconut fruit and husk in different piles on ground;
    e) Shed - with few baskets containing coconuts, also coconuts on ground and some inside shed;
    f) Drying coconut meat in long open stove of concrete;
    3) Constructing Buildings
    a) Long shot of building half completed;
    b) Men working at drain, roof, timber framework;
    c) Long shot of one storey building;
    4) Tobacco:
    a) Drying tobacco leaves - tied to a pole hung horizontally on 2 stands;
    b) Long shot of tobacco growing;
    5) Road Names:
    a) Names of 3 roads - Jalan Rakit, Jalan Perahu, Jalan Kapal;
    b) Roads are not concrete, but of orange earth;
    c) Along these roads include low buildings, vegetable plots, woman carrying two pails for watering;
    6) Construction of Bridge over Water: centre section running over water already built; other parts not completed yet;
    7) Farmers' Study Tour (introduced in September 1964):
    a) Putting up red banner on one side of bus;
    b) Group photo of farmers and officials with bus as background;
    c) At one stop - met on arrival at farm;
    d) Visit Central Research Station of Ministry of National Development: external view of buildings; walking to and out of buildings; at pig sty; official talking;
    e) Visit Green Spot Factory: shot of name of factory and main entrance; looking at some machines, cooking section, cans rolling out; official talking; serve refreshments which include Green Spot drinks in white and pink; thanking factory people;
    f) Visit Zuellig Feedmills (S) Ltd: looking at photographs on display; official briefing; sit down for refereshments;
    g) Looking at vegetable plots, watering by sprinklers in ground;
    h) Looking at reclamation works; bakground open sea with a few vessels in water;
    i) Visiting HDB Office: briefing by official; leaving office to look at HDB flats, high-rise and four-storey blocks, market building;
    j) Visit Fish Farm: at viewing gallery of fish;
    10) Opening Ceremony and Graduation Ceremony of Farm School :
    a) Plaque of Official Opening of Farm School on 9 July 1966;
    b) Two lion dance troupes arriving in lorry, practising as they walk along;
    c) People looking at exhibition related to farming;
    d) Banner about Opening of Farm School on 9 July 1966;
    e) Outside of building and shed with buntings;
    f) Six machines on display;
    g) Ceremony: Ho Cheng Choon, Parliamentary Secretary to Ministry of Law and National Development, speaking to invited guests, receiving souvenirs, presenting certificates to graduates  
    h) Mr Ho in jeep, gets down to walk, greeted by two lion dances, which lead way in; fire crackers let off;
    i) Mr Ho inspecting guard of honours formed by farm school students;
    j) At ceremony, two officials speak;
    k) Mr Ho walking round accompanied by first speaker, looks at exhibition, talks to staff and students;
    l) Mr Ho driving himself off.
