  • Synopsis :

    The 16mm film 'A Glimpse of Lim Chu Kang' focuses on vegetable and animal farming in the area. The film is not a packaged production. It actually consists more of footages related to farming and also buildings in Lim Chu Kang. There is no audio. Details of the footages are as follows:
    1) Opening footage: long shot, panning across several one-storey farm buildings and sheds, open space;
    2) Vegetable and fruit shots: tapioca, lady's fingers, brinjal, long beans, green marrow, papaya, groundnuts, chilli;
    3) Tobacco leaf - cutting, tying to long pole, which is hung out in open to dry in sun;
    4) Animals - calf, pigs in basket, Peking duck in waters and sunning on land;
    5) Corner of kitchen - small gas stove, kettle for boiling water, man turn some food in pan with cover, small pot;
    6) Huge square metal top with pipe, standing in centre vertically, attached to hose, group of men and women with one man briefing;
    7) Water divided into big squares with poles; two men squatting down scooping baby fish from small net, dropping in water and occasionally in a pail; thousands of baby fish, gold fish;
    8) Another kitchen - man lighting up more old-fashioned gas stove to boil water;
    9) Hens - man mixing up feed with changkul; 2 men pouring feed into long troughs in front of hens at coops; some hens in open ground and man putting metal container holding water near them;
    10) Man collecting eggs from the coops;
    11) Work done to pack hens in plastic bags: plucking feathers with machinery; pulling out entrails manually; a woman packs hen manually in plastic bag, a man ties it up, another woman cutting end of bag;
    12) Vehicle with man inside selling packets to a few people;
    13) Ama Keng Village Community Centre - name signboard, external views of building;
    14) Nan Hoe Village Community Centre - name signboard, inside building man buying some packets from official;
    15) Lim Chu Kang veterinary station - signboard; at its Animal Clinic(small signboard) - man examing inside of hen, which is cut open and explaining to another person;
    16) Several top buildings with top half open and zince roofing;
    17) Pigs - black, six eating from trough, and drinking;
    18) Closing footage: long shot, panning across several low buildings, open field with farmer watering manually plants in neat rows, panning across stretch of water with coconutes in background.
